ST. LANDRY PARISH VETERANS MEMORIAL

The Concept:

To acknowledge and recognize all military personnel; to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country; and to create a park - a quiet place unto itself, a place of education, a place of hope, a place of peace, serenity and beauty, a place for all of us.

A Place of Remembrance...

The prototype of the St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial is a pentagonal black granite or marble base with a statue of a soldier in a half-kneeling position with a weapon in hand.

The kneeling soldier is a representation of all men and women of the armed forces who were citizens of St. Landry Parish and died in warfare.

One flag from each branch of the armed forces will be located at each corner of the base.

"The Walkway of Remembrance"

Engraved bricks to form a walkway will be in remembrance of all military personnel from St. Landry Parish. The walkway will be flanked by the POW/MIA flag, Louisiana State flag and St. Landry Parish flag. The flag of the United States will be located in the center of the Walkway of Remembrance.

Walkways of Supporters...

Engraved bricks will form extended walkways for supporters, civilians, military and other non-military personnel. The walkways will be symbols to future generations of the commitment and dedication of all supporters.

The Sponsorship Wall...

These walls will be placed at the entrance of the Memorial Park leading to the "Walkway of Remembrance". The names of the contributors will be inscribed on a bronze inlay plaque in recognition of their outstanding support of the St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial project.
